The Balkan Snapshots Preview was a great pre-event.
This year the Balkan Snapshots is taking place in May 2012. However, Balkan Buro is happy to announce the ‘Balkan Snapshots Preview’ the 13th and 14th of October: two nights of cinema, music, food, and drinks in the East of Amsterdam to welcome and enjoy the fresh creativity of young artists from the Southeast Europe!
With the purpose of familiarizing the audience with the theme of the Balkan Snapshots festival happening next May: 'Creative States of Southeast Europe', a various number of artists from that region joined us to make these two October nights in the East of Amsterdam appetizing and inspiring. By giving voice to underground artists, through an experimental coalition of art, words and inventive minds, we want the Balkan region to be known in a way that goes beyond politics, yet preventing falling into the ‘Balkan beats’ stereotype.
With the support of the European Commission, the first night at the Film theater Kriterion we screened a marathon of films with interesting Q&As with actors, creative directors and members of the several Film Festivals that partnered with us for the selection of the movies and realization of this event. During the second night at Studio/K we presented 2 bands: Genc Salihu & band from Kosovo and Shalla, a Dutch band with several players and instruments from the Balkans, representing a perfect merge of the two musical scenes. The night was then celebrated by djs Bojan and Nebosja from Belgrade that made the dancing floor vibrating with their tunes and beats.
